The extension of the district office with a vertical appearance forms a desirable contrast to the flat and horizontal existing building. In the direction of Neckar and the federal highway, the new extension presents itself as a slim and twelve-storey landmark which floats above the river. Towards the Merkel Park the height of the extension decreases to match with the height of the existing building. The two-storey front building marks a distinctive entrance to the new extension with conciseness.
Most of the spaces are allocated in economic double-loaded corridors. There are single-loaded corridors only in the ground floor and part of the intermediate floor. The building’s accessibility system consists of three elevators and a main staircase. A spacious, many-sided oriented room connects both of the building blocks, offering space for informal gathering and discussion. Every floor has a central sanitary area. Window elements and office partitions enable a flexible adjustment of the desirable room size.
